Heavy duty galvanised farm gate hinge kit for mounting compatible tubular farm gates to timber posts. Features 16mm x 300mm threaded through-post fittings, adjustable gate alignment and a nylon hinge bush for smoother movement.

  • Heavy Duty Gate Support: Upper and lower hinge assemblies support compatible tubular farm gates around paddocks, livestock yards and rural entrances.
  • Through-Post Mounting: Threaded fittings pass through the timber post and secure with the supplied nuts and washers.
  • Four Mounting Points: Each hinge assembly uses two mounting points, requiring four holes through the timber post.
  • 16mm x 300mm Threaded Fittings: Provide through-post mounting and adjustment, subject to the post thickness and space required for the fasteners.
  • Adjustable Gate Alignment: Threaded fittings allow the hinge position to be fine-tuned to bring the gate level and align the latch end.
  • Easy to Readjust: Allows minor alignment corrections if the timber post settles or shifts after installation.
  • Nylon Hinge Bush: Helps reduce direct metal-on-metal contact and wear while supporting smoother gate movement.
  • Hot-Dip Galvanised Finish: Provides corrosion resistance for outdoor farm and rural use.

Description

The Richmond FGR009 Heavy Duty Farm Gate Hinge Kit provides an adjustable mounting system for hanging tubular farm and field gates on timber posts. Suitable for new installations or replacing worn hinge fittings, it is a practical option for paddock entrances, livestock yards, farm driveways and general rural access points.

The upper and lower hinge assemblies mount through the timber post using 16mm x 300mm threaded fittings, secured with the supplied nuts and washers. Each assembly uses two mounting points. The lower gudgeon supports the gate, while the upper hinge retains the hinge end and guides it as the gate opens and closes.

Threaded adjustment makes it easier to get the gate sitting level and line up the latch end during installation. It also allows minor corrections later if the timber post settles or shifts, helping restore alignment without relocating the complete hinge assembly. The mounting-hole positions determine the gate’s initial height, so ground clearance should be checked before drilling.

A nylon hinge bush helps reduce direct metal-on-metal contact between the mating hinge components, supporting smoother movement and reducing wear during regular use. The hot-dip galvanised finish provides corrosion resistance for ongoing exposure to outdoor conditions.

Before installation, check that the hinge components suit the gate and that the timber post leaves enough threaded length for the nuts, washers and adjustment. The post must be secure and capable of supporting the gate and the loads encountered during use.

Installation

The FGR009 uses a through-post mounting system on a suitable timber gate post. The upper and lower hinge assemblies each use two mounting points, requiring four holes to be drilled through the post.

Start by positioning the gate at the required height and checking ground clearance throughout its swing. Mark a vertical reference line on the post, then measure the mounting positions from the actual gate and hinge assemblies. Drill the holes using a method and hole size appropriate for the supplied fittings and timber post.

Fit the lower gudgeon and secure it with the supplied nuts and washers. With the gate supported, hang it on the lower gudgeon and fit the upper hinge to retain the hinge end. Adjust the threaded fittings until the gate sits level and the latch end is correctly aligned, then tighten the fasteners and check that the gate swings freely.

The nylon bush should be fitted in its intended position between the mating hinge components. If the post settles or shifts over time, the threaded fittings can be readjusted to correct minor alignment changes.

Product FAQs

The FGR009 mounts through a suitable timber gate post. Each of the upper and lower hinge assemblies uses two mounting points, requiring four holes through the post. The threaded fittings pass through the timber and secure with the supplied nuts and washers.

Position the gate at the required height before marking and drilling. Fit the lower gudgeon, support the gate on the lower pin and attach the upper hinge. Adjust the threaded fittings until the gate is level and correctly aligned, then tighten the fasteners and check that it swings freely.

The kit is designed for compatible tubular farm and field gates mounted on timber posts. Check that the gate’s hinge-end tube and hinge arrangement suit the supplied components. Gate width alone does not establish compatibility, so the gate’s construction, weight and hinge fit should also be considered.

Yes. The threaded fittings allow the hinge position to be adjusted to help level the gate and align the latch end. This is useful during installation and for correcting minor changes if the timber post settles or shifts later.

Support the gate before loosening the fittings, and tighten the fasteners securely after making adjustments. A loose, damaged or significantly leaning post should be repaired rather than relying on hinge adjustment alone.

Set the gate at the required height before marking the mounting holes. Check the clearance across its full swing, as rising ground, roots or uneven surfaces may cause it to catch even when it clears the ground in the closed position.

The mounting-hole positions establish the initial height. Threaded adjustment helps level and align the gate, but should not be treated as a way to raise or lower the entire gate after drilling.

No. The post must leave enough threaded length for the nuts, washers and the required adjustment. Measure the post and check it against the actual fittings before drilling. The 300mm thread length should not be treated as the maximum suitable post thickness.

Yes. The hot-dip galvanised finish provides corrosion resistance for outdoor farm and rural environments. Periodically check the hinges, bush, nuts and washers for wear, loosening or damage, particularly on gates that are used frequently.

Yes, provided the kit suits the gate and timber post. Check the existing hole positions, the condition of the timber and the fit of the hinge components before starting. Existing holes may not match the FGR009 mounting arrangement, so measure carefully before reusing them or drilling new ones.
