Single Flange Wheels differ from Double Flange Wheels in the applications that they are used as they are almost always used as a pair, facing opposite each other.

See example below: In this setup, lateral movement towards the left is limited by the flange on the left, while movement to the right is limited by the flange on the right wheel. The amount of play can be controlled by setting the distance between the two wheels.

The profile of single flange wheels can be made to suit the exact rail that is being used in the applications. Our standard range of Single Flange wheels has a flat profile to suit RHS (Rectangular Hollow Section) steel, SHS (Square Hollow Section) steel, and other sections of steel with a flat profile. This gives a maximum amount of surface contact, which reduces contact pressure and minimises wear on the wheels and track.

Light rail is also commonly used, for this style of track the profile of the wheel can be customised to suit the exact rail in the application.
