Frequently Asked Questions
What is a hydraulic toe jack?
A hydraulic toe jack is a heavy-duty lifting jack designed to raise machinery, plant and equipment with very low ground clearance. Its low-profile toe can slide under loads with as little as 20 mm of clearance, making it ideal where bottle jacks or trolley jacks cannot fit. Most toe jacks also feature a head lifting point for conventional lifting when greater clearance is available.
What’s the difference between a toe lift and a head lift?
A toe lift raises the load using the low-profile lifting toe at the base of the jack, allowing loads with minimal clearance to be lifted. A head lift raises the load from the flat top of the jack body, similar to a bottle jack, and is used when there is sufficient clearance. Always follow the rated capacity for the specific lifting point being used, as toe and head capacities may differ depending on the model.
How do I choose the right hydraulic toe jack?
Select a toe jack based on the load that the jack will actually support, rather than the total weight of the equipment. Consider the load distribution, add an appropriate safety margin, and ensure the toe height will fit beneath the load while the lifting stroke provides sufficient travel. Richmond offers hydraulic toe jacks in 5 tonne, 10 tonne and 25 tonne capacities to suit a wide range of industrial lifting applications.
Can you work under a load supported only by a hydraulic toe jack?
No. A hydraulic toe jack is designed for lifting only, not for supporting a load. Once the load has been raised, it should be transferred onto appropriately rated jack stands, cribbing or blocking before any work is carried out. Never place any part of your body beneath a load that is supported only by a hydraulic jack.
Can a hydraulic toe jack be used horizontally?
No. Hydraulic toe jacks are designed to operate vertically on a solid, level surface. Using a toe jack horizontally can prevent the hydraulic system from operating correctly and may place damaging side loads on the ram. If horizontal pushing or pulling is required, use hydraulic equipment specifically designed for that purpose.
Hydraulic Toe Jacks
Richmond supplies heavy-duty Hydraulic Toe Jacks for lifting machinery, plant and industrial equipment where low ground clearance prevents the use of conventional bottle jacks or lifting equipment. Designed for controlled vertical lifting, Hydraulic Toe Jacks provide a practical solution for machinery installation, maintenance, relocation and equipment positioning.
Available in 5 tonne, 10 tonne and 25 tonne capacities, Richmond’s Hydraulic Toe Jacks feature low-profile lifting toes, dual lifting points and robust steel construction for demanding industrial environments. Their compact design allows equipment to be lifted safely where access is restricted.

Low Clearance Heavy Lifting Solutions
Hydraulic Toe Jacks are designed specifically for lifting heavy loads from extremely low starting heights. Unlike standard hydraulic jacks that require significant clearance beneath the load, toe jacks use a low-profile lifting toe that slides beneath machinery, equipment or structures before applying controlled hydraulic lifting force.
These jacks are widely used throughout manufacturing plants, mining operations, warehouses, engineering workshops and maintenance facilities where heavy equipment must be lifted for installation, levelling, relocation or servicing. When combined with equipment such as Load Skates, Hydraulic Toe Jacks provide an efficient solution for moving large machinery safely and accurately.
Product Types by Application
5 Tonne Hydraulic Toe Jacks
The 5 Tonne Hydraulic Toe Jack is suitable for lifting lighter industrial machinery, production equipment and maintenance applications requiring low-profile access.
Its compact size makes it well suited to workshops, equipment servicing and machinery positioning where controlled lifting is essential.
10 Tonne Hydraulic Toe Jacks
The 10 Tonne Hydraulic Toe Jack provides additional lifting capacity for medium to heavy industrial equipment.
It is commonly used during machinery installation, production line maintenance and equipment relocation across manufacturing and engineering facilities.
25 Tonne Hydraulic Toe Jacks
The 25 Tonne Hydraulic Toe Jack is designed for lifting large industrial machinery, mining equipment and other high-capacity loads.
Its heavy-duty construction supports demanding applications where substantial lifting force and long-term durability are required.
Key Features
Low-Profile Lifting Toe
Hydraulic Toe Jacks feature a low toe height that allows the lifting point to slide beneath machinery with minimal ground clearance.
This makes them ideal for lifting equipment that cannot be accessed using conventional hydraulic jacks or forklift tines.
Dual Lifting Points
Each jack provides both a toe lifting point and a top lifting surface.
This allows operators to choose the most suitable lifting method depending on equipment design and available access.
Heavy-Duty Steel Construction
Manufactured from robust steel with hardened lifting components, Hydraulic Toe Jacks are designed for repeated industrial use.
The durable construction provides reliable performance when lifting heavy machinery in demanding operating environments.
Rotating Pump Handle
A 360-degree rotating pump handle allows the hydraulic mechanism to be operated from different positions.
This improves usability in confined spaces where access around machinery may be limited.
Integrated Overload Protection
Built-in overload protection helps prevent the jack from being operated beyond its rated lifting capacity.
This enhances operator safety while helping protect both the equipment being lifted and the hydraulic system itself.
