Polyurethane Lined Pipe
Our in-house team has the capability to design and manufacture bespoke polyurethane products for any application or industry.
Why bother lining pipes with polyurethane? Simply put, you can expect more productivity and fewer damage costs out of it. At Richmond Wheel and Castor Co., we specialise in helping industries move things, whether those things are raw materials, products, parts, or large machines. We’ve been manufacturing top-quality castors, castor wheels, carts, cage trolleys, and other products since 1958. With all our experience, we’ve learned exactly what each major Australian industry needs from us and what benefits each workplace. One thing all industries have in common is this: If it can be done safer, it can be done quicker. Once you’ve eliminated safety hazards, you’re free to work with minimal obstacles. And we don’t just mean employee safety; that’s one of our priorities in our products, but we’re talking about the safety of the equipment as well. If your equipment is expertly insulated against the usual wear & tear of production, it’s going to run faster and smoother. Read More
Polyurethane Lining to Keep Your Machinery Running Smooth
That’s exactly where polyurethane pipe lining comes in. The lining allows your pipes to transport materials faster, with less energy required, and for much longer periods of time. And like all our other products, our polyurethane pipes only make it to the shelves if they’re of the highest quality. After more than 60 years, we’ve learned to manufacture with seasoned precision. If we make a subpar item, we scrap it and make it again. If it’s made it to our showrooms or online stores, it’s because it’s been held to the highest standards and passed every single one. That’s why Australians in every state trust us, and it’s why we’ve been around so long. Lining pipes isn’t the easiest process, so if you want the job done right, look no further than us at Richmond.
How is a Polyurethane Lined Pipe Different? What Changes?
Polyurethane lining, when seamless, completely covers the inner surface of your pipes. The extra layer of protection keeps your pipes in working order for much longer. Corrosion, oxidation, and abrasion are typical hazards for metal pipes, especially in agriculture or mining. Polyurethane is basically a highly protective sealant layer.
And we do mean “protective”. Polyurethane pipe lining is not just resistant to corrosive materials and chemicals in general. It also resists impact, heat, abrasion, and even UV damage. So, while metal piping is much more cost-efficient and practical, a pipe lining of polyurethane helps to compensate for the natural weaknesses of typical materials used for pipes. With a proper lining, you don’t need to replace your pipes even half as often.
Usually, a spinning process is used to create an even coating inside pipes. That keeps there from being any unnecessary folds or creases which not only take up space and create minor obstructions but also lead to quicker degradation. We make sure our polyurethane lining is completely fitted to the pipes and provides a seamless cover.

The perfect partner for custom polyurethane products
For specific applications Richmond Wheel & Castor Co. can expertly manufacture polyurethane products in any hardness from 25A to 85D.
How does polyurethane compare to alternative material selections?
Compared to rubber | Compared to metal | Compared to injection moulded plastics |
Superior abrasion resistance | Abrasion resistance | High impact resistance |
Wide range or hardness for more application flexibility | Non-corrosive | Much lower tooling cost |
Lighter load bearing | Light weight | Elastic memory |
Cut and tear resistant | Flexible | Thick and thin section mouldings |
Uv and ozone resistance | Impact resistant | Noise reduction |
Lower cost tooling | Nonconductive | Lower and higher temperature range capable |
Thicker sections possible | Non sparking | Resilience |
Parts with very thick and thin sections possible | Lower cost fabrication | Elastic memory |
Colourability | Lower cost tooling compared to cast steel/iron parts | Wide range or hardness for more application flexibility |
Can be manufactured with a FRAS Rating (fire resistance & antistatic) | Noise reduction in impact applications | Abrasion resistance |
Won’t damage other steel or concrete surfaces like steel components |
