Pneumatic Castor Wheels
Richmond supplies pneumatic castor wheels for trolleys, carts and mobile equipment operating across uneven indoor and outdoor surfaces. Their air-filled rubber tyres absorb shock and help reduce vibration when moving over grass, gravel, pavers, concrete joints and rough ground.
The range includes wheel diameters from 160mm to 400mm, with listed load capacities from 25kg to 300kg per castor. Swivel, rigid and braked models provide different steering and parking functions for agricultural equipment, mobile sports systems, equipment carts and material handling applications.

Pneumatic Tyred Castors for Indoor & Outdoor Applications
Pneumatic tyred castors provide cushioning when equipment travels across surfaces that would otherwise transmit bumps and vibration through the trolley frame. The air-filled tyre helps soften impacts from paving joints, small obstacles and uneven ground, reducing the jolts reaching the equipment and its contents.
These castors are commonly used on outdoor equipment moving across grass, gravel, compacted soil, bitumen and concrete. They can also be used indoors when cushioning is a priority, such as equipment carts moving between a workshop and an outdoor work area.
Performance depends on the wheel size, tyre pressure, loaded weight and ground conditions. Check the individual castor’s load rating and keep its tyre inflated to the specified pressure to maintain its intended carrying and rolling performance.
Product Types by Application
Swivel Pneumatic Castors
Swivel pneumatic castors allow the frame to turn so equipment can change direction. They are used on trolleys, carts and mobile equipment that need to move around obstacles, turn through entrances or be manoeuvred into storage.
A swivel arrangement provides steering flexibility, while a combination of swivel and rigid castors adds straight-line tracking for equipment travelling along paths or between work areas.
Rigid Pneumatic Castors
Rigid pneumatic castors hold the wheel in a fixed direction, allowing forward and backward travel. This helps a trolley maintain its direction when moving along a straight route.
They are commonly paired with swivel castors so the equipment can be steered while retaining directional control. The pneumatic tyre provides cushioning as the trolley crosses uneven concrete, pavers or outdoor ground.
Braked Pneumatic Castors
Braked pneumatic castors add a parking function to mobile equipment. A wheel brake locks wheel rotation, helping limit movement when a trolley or cart is stationary.
Brake functions vary between models. A wheel brake does not necessarily lock the swivel head, so check the individual product specification if both wheel rotation and swivel movement need to be restrained.
Heavy Duty Pneumatic Castors
Higher-capacity pneumatic castors are available for heavier carts and industrial equipment. The range includes 400mm wheel models with a listed maximum load capacity of 300kg per castor, available in rigid and swivel configurations.
Larger wheels provide greater obstacle clearance, but also increase the space needed beneath the equipment. Check the overall castor height, mounting dimensions and wheel clearance when fitting them to an existing trolley or platform.
Key Features of Pneumatic Castors
Air-Filled Rubber Tyres
Pneumatic rubber castor wheels use air-filled tyres to cushion movement across uneven surfaces. The tyre absorbs some of the impact as the wheel passes over paving joints, gravel and small surface irregularities.
This helps reduce vibration transmitted through the equipment frame, making pneumatic tyres useful for carts carrying equipment or goods that benefit from a cushioned ride.
Outdoor Ground Contact
Pneumatic tyres provide a cushioned contact surface for equipment travelling over grass, gravel and compacted soil. They are commonly used where a trolley needs to move beyond smooth warehouse or workshop floors.
Ground firmness and the loaded weight still affect movement. Soft soil, deep gravel and rough surfaces should be considered when assessing the wheel size and capacity required for the job.
Wheel Sizes & Frame Options
Wheel diameters from 160mm to 400mm accommodate different equipment sizes and installation requirements. Swivel, rigid and braked frame options provide steering, directional tracking and parking functions.
Wheel diameter is only part of the fitment. Overall castor height, wheel width and mounting dimensions also need to match the equipment, particularly when replacing existing castors.
Replacement Pneumatic Wheels
Replacement pneumatic wheels are available for selected models, allowing a worn or damaged wheel to be replaced while retaining a serviceable castor frame.
Check the replacement wheel code listed for the castor before ordering. Wheel diameter alone does not confirm compatibility, as hub dimensions, bearings and axle fitment can differ.
Applications by Industry
- Agriculture: Carts and mobile equipment transporting tools, supplies and equipment around farm work areas.
- Sports & Recreation: Mobile sports systems and equipment that need to be moved across grounds or between storage and activity areas.
- Events & Entertainment: Equipment carts transporting sound equipment and event supplies across outdoor venues and uneven paved areas.
- Catering & Hospitality: Mobile equipment travelling between indoor preparation areas and outdoor service spaces.
- Warehousing & Logistics: Trolleys moving between warehouses, loading areas and outdoor storage spaces.
