Light Duty Furniture Wheels and Castors

Richmond’s range of furniture castors are made to suit most office furniture including chairs, trolleys, desks, light duty cabinets such as TV units, display racking and bed frames. They are ideal for either retrofitting existing castors or adding rolling functionality to your furniture. They are hard wearing, available with braked options to prevent unwanted movement, and are suitable for a variety of floor types such as carpet, tiles or floorboards.

For use over hard floor types such as tiles or floorboards, we recommend our non-marking furniture castor range, which have grey non-marking wheels. These prevent floor scratches and dints. For use on carpet, any of our other ranges will be suitable. All of our furniture castors have a load capacity of up to 40kg per castor.

Office Chair Wheels

If you are looking for office chair wheels, we’ve got you covered. We supply every type of popular mounting option for these castors including plate mount, threaded stem mount, friction stem mount and grip neck mount. Finding the right replacement wheels for office furniture can be tricky – so if you’re not sure, get in touch with our expert team and we’ll find the ideal solution for you in just minutes.

Bed Legs & Bed Castors

Our bed legs and glides enable you to move your bed or mattress across the room easily, allowing you to rearrange your room or move your bed to vacuum. They are ideal for moving across soft surfaces such as carpet.  Our range of bed castors are available in two models – castors with brakes or bed leg glides.

Richmond’s bed castors make repositioning and cleaning around beds easier while maintaining stability and support. They’re suitable for most Australian bed frames with a standard 3/8″ BSW threaded mount. Both free-rolling and brake-equipped castors are available, offering flexibility for use across home and healthcare settings.

Table Castors and Desk Mobility

For moving larger items like desks, meeting tables or mobile workstations, table castors provide a robust and smooth rolling solution. These castors are engineered for heavier loads while offering stability and protection across various floor surfaces. Both fixed and swivel options are available, with or without foot brakes for secure positioning.

Mounting Types for Furniture Castors

Richmond offers a range of mounting types engineered to suit different structural frames, weight-bearing needs, and installation preferences. Each mount type plays a role in how furniture can be repositioned, braked, or maintained over time.

  • Threaded Stem Castors: Threaded stem castors are ideal for applications where the furniture frame includes pre-threaded inserts, weld nuts, or compatible brackets. Richmond manufactures both metric and imperial thread options.
  • Grip Ring Stem Castors: Grip ring stems are designed for push-fit insertion into tubular legs or sockets. The spring-loaded metal ring compresses during insertion and expands once seated, creating a tool-free, secure fit. This design is most commonly used on office seating.
  • Plate Mount Castors: Plate mount castors offer the highest level of structural stability. The castor base is a steel plate with four bolt holes designed to attach directly to the underside of a furniture unit. Plate mounts distribute weight evenly across four mounting points.
  • Friction Stem Castors: Friction stem castors are inserted into smooth, unthreaded holes where retention relies on a compression fit. These are often used in lightweight furniture or temporary installations where castors may need to be removed and reinstalled regularly.

Furniture Castor Considerations

When choosing furniture castors, it’s important to consider floor type, movement, and safety. Richmond offers non-marking wheels to protect surfaces like timber, tiles, and vinyl, with materials suited to different environments and rolling conditions.

Castors are available in fixed or swivel types, or a mix of both for easier manoeuvring. Brake options include manual and weight-activated styles, helping to keep furniture stable when needed.

When choosing the right castor for your application, think about:

  • The floor surface
  • How often the item needs to move
  • Total weight including load
  • Any exposure to moisture or chemicals

For help selecting the right option for your furniture equipment, contact your local Richmond team for advice on choosing the right castor for your application.
